The show centres on Reet Chaudhary, a driven journalist from Gwalior who works for a mentor of hers. She becomes a part of an unusual marriage arrangement known as the “Aata Saata marriage” (also spelled “Aata Sata”) — a custom in parts of India (notably Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh) where one family marries off their daughter into another family and in return takes the daughter from that family for their son (or nephew) — creating a mutual obligation. In this show bua keeps on doing conspiracy against Raghav and Reet but never gets exposed in front of Raghav. Reet is treated as just a doormat.
In Reet’s case, she marries Raghav, a businessman with a complex personality. Their marriage is not born of love but of obligation: Reet’s brother’s marriage to Raghav’s sister is the reason for the arrangement. Reet’s status in the marriage acts as a guarantee for his sister’s treatment.
Thus the show asks: can a marriage that begins from duty become one of love? And how do individual desires, family honour and old traditions interact in modern lives?
