At the Chavan house, Teju finally finishes washing a mountain of clothes and sits down to eat. But Lakshmi stops her again, this time asking her to grind spices. Without protest, Teju begins grinding them by hand, her already sore palms soon forming painful blisters. Trying to find a moment of peace, she hums a song, her voice filled with warmth and longing for her father, Mohit. The melody floats through the house, reaching the ears of Aditi and the others, but before they can enjoy it, Lakshmi bursts in furiously. In a fit of rage, she hurls a plate to the floor and commands Teju to stop singing immediately.
Aditi, confused and angry, questions Lakshmi’s harshness. Lakshmi’s bitterness spills out—she reveals that Mohit had always dreamed of marrying a woman who could sing, and because she couldn’t, she believes he never truly loved her. From that wound comes her cruelty: as long as she lives, Teju will never be allowed to sing in this house.
She snaps at the others to get back to their chores. Aditi, unable to contain herself, points out that Teju has already been working non-stop and now has blistered hands. In a shocking moment, Lakshmi slaps Aditi for speaking out. Aditi pleads with her not to hit Teju, but Lakshmi remains cold, declaring that everyone in the house must follow her rules without question. When Juhi hesitantly steps forward and offers to help grind the spices, Lakshmi shuts her down too, making it clear that disobedience will not be tolerated.
